Contarf Foundation

Clontarf with OwenThe Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the discipline, life skills, and self esteem of young Aboriginal men and by doing so equip them to participate meanfully in society.

These outcomes are achieved through the medium of Australian Rules Football. Football Academies are formed in association with selected schools and colleges. Each Academy's football program attracts young Aboriginal me to school and then help to retain them. As well as conducting the football program , Academy staff mentor and counsel Academy members on a range of behavioural and lifestyle issues while the school caters for their specific educational needs.

The Clontarf Academy has a presence at four separate campuses including Centralian College, Anzac Hill High School, Yirara College and Alice Springs High School. Clontarf have seen a great success in participants gaining employment in 2008 with a record 80% of Year 12 graduates being in full time employment within 12 months. Overall attendance is 80% also and they have seen a six-fold increase in the number of boys attending year 12 in established Academies.

Drovers Alice Springs Hospital Volunteer Service

Drovers Volunteers

Since its inception in April 2007, the Drovers Alice Springs Hospital Volunteer Service has been met with astonishing success, attracting more than 70 volunteers and the support from many businesses and organisations throughout Alice Springs.

The Drovers supply a book and magazine trolley that also provides tolietries, reading glasses, puzzles, pencils, cards and anything that can help the patients pass the time or cater for ther needs.

Patients who need transport to the bus depot or airport will often find themselves chauffeured by a Drover Driver. Drovers are on hand to collect families of interstate visitors from the airport. Our Drover car was supplied by a grant from Centrecorp.

Our volunteers entertain children in the Paediatric Ward to give parents a break, they organise hairdressers, massages and the washing of patients clothes. Drovers fundraising has provided special patient chairs, clothing and other items for patient care.

Yeperenye Shopping Centre is a proud sponsor of the Drovers Volunteer group.
